Murray Hedwig
Murray has an extensive fine art experience. He holds a Diploma FA Hons from Canterbury University and a Diploma of Teaching (Distinction) from Christchurch Teachers College.
He taught graphic design and professional photography at Christchurch Polytechnic for 30 years.
In 2003 Murray began working as an architectural and commercial photographer alongside his work as a fine art photographer. He has a long exhibition history in New Zealand and is represented in public collections.
In 2005 he self-published a collection of his urban photography titled ‘Public Spaces/Personal Views’. In 2009 he co-photographed (with Anita Peters) for a book on the whitebait culture of New Zealand titled ‘Whitebaiters Never Lie.’ This subsequently was developed into a large outdoor exhibition of the same name by the Christchurch Arts Festival, with 118 large panels on display throughout Art Centre precinct in central Christchurch
He and his partner Anita purchased ‘Fairholme’, Golden Bay in 2012 and re-opened the gallery soon after. They co-produced exhibitions such as ‘Trees’ (2014,) Womens Work (2015), Christchurch ‘Quake’ (2017) and Forest Treasures (2021), plus other smaller themed shows.
